Studio Policy

Practice Expectation

  • Students are required to have a piano to practice on outside of lesson time. An acoustic piano or a fully weighted keyboard in a full-size (88 keys).

  • Keep the piano in tune and well-maintained, and have a metronome for use in daily practice.

  • Quality of practice is more important than quantity. Practice should be focused, intentional, and goal-oriented, rather than passive repetition. I highly encourage students to have a daily routine of practice and use their notebooks as a reminder of their assignments in order to achieve the goal I set and be prepared for every lesson.

  • Below is the Practice Time Guideline for your reference:

    • Preparatory Levels: 15 minutes

    • Beginner: 30 minutes

    • Intermediate: 45 minutes- 1 hour

    • Advanced: 1-3 hours

    • Stick to the regular time every day

Student Responsibilities

  • Complete daily practice assignments

  • Students will need to bring a dedicated lesson notebook and their assigned method or repertoire books to each weekly lesson.

  • Students must wash their hands thoroughly before their piano lesson.

  • Trim nails before coming to lessons.

  • All shoes must be removed on the entryway floor mat inside the home.

Parent or Guardian Responsibilities

  • Parents or guardians should sit down with the student several times a week to ensure that all assignments are completed and to offer support.

  • Ensure that students arrive on time. Late arrivals will not receive extended lesson time; only the remaining portion of the scheduled lesson will be provided.

  • Encourage students by sitting in on lessons periodically. Parents of children under 7 are advised to attend lessons when possible to help in the learning process and help them understand how to support their child's practice at home.
Parents are welcome to provide feedback and suggestions to me after the lesson, which will increase the effectiveness of each lesson. Listen to music at home and attend a variety of concerts together throughout the year.

Cancellation and Make-up Policy

  • Refunds will not be given for lessons missed or canceled by the student at any time. For personal reasons, there are up to two makeup lessons that can be offered each semester.

  • The following reasons are acceptable for makeup, either in-person or online format, such as:

    Illness with 24-hour advance notice

    Extreme weather conditions

    Family emergencies

    School conflicts

    Unavoidable conflicts

    Family Vacations

Any reasons, with a limit of four per school year/ two per semester

  • If the student is sick (e.g., fever, cough, flu), please stay home.

  • Lesson that falls on the holiday, including Fall break or Labor Day, can be made up. If the teacher must cancel a lesson, it will either be made up or refunded.

  • Make-up lessons will be offered in person or online at a mutually convenient time, scheduled at the end of the semester, or by extending lesson time.

Payment

  • Payments are due on the 1st lesson of each month. Tuition can be paid by Venmo, Zella, check, or cash. A $10 late fee will be applied if payment is not received after the 2nd lesson of the month.

Books

  • Books are not included in the tuition. Students are required to purchase materials promptly once they are assigned.

  • Students are encouraged to keep all materials in a special bag used only for the piano lesson.

Photo, Video, and Publicity

  • The teacher may use photos and videos of students taken during lessons and events for public use.

  • If students do not wish to have their photos or videos posted online, please contact the teacher.

Withdrawal and Break

  • Students should plan to commit to lessons for a full school year or a full semester.

  • If a student needs to discontinue lessons, please provide at least 4 weeks' notice via Email or Text. Tuition will be adjusted according to the number of lessons taken. If notice is not given, a final month's tuition will be charged to hold your reserved lesson time.

  • If a student chooses to take a break from lessons during the school year/semester, their lesson time cannot be guaranteed upon return. To guarantee your current lesson time after a break, families may reserve the slot by paying 50% of the monthly tuition. Otherwise, re-enrollment will be subject to availability.

  • The student may be dismissed for the following reasons: Poor attitude, violation of studio policies, lack of respect, and not practicing consistently.
